| Our goal is to provide clean water and electricity to 5 villages in 10 years. We started with the village of Mtumba in 2005, began working on the village of Chisichili in 2007 and have started working with the village of Kisima Cha Ndege in 2008. An important part of the success of our program is the "follow-up-reviews" we do with the village leaders responsible for the ongoing / self-sustaining operation of each program. We just completed comprehensive reviews of all Mtumba and Chisichili programs during our visit in September 2008. We continue to learn more about how to develop and tailor "best practices" as we work with these villages and prepare for others in the future. The overall needs of the villagers are so great it can quickly become overwhelming to any organization trying to help. At Tanzania Life Project we've learned that to be successful we must focus our attention on the primary needs of water and electricity with a limited number of other programs. We do listen to the needs of the villagers beyond our primary focus and try to look for other organizations who can provide the needed assistance. A great example of this is a recent partnership we developed with Abbott Labs to provide HIV/AIDS support in the Mtumba ward. |
